Re-employment
Did you retire on the grounds of redundancy or interest of efficiency and receive compensatory added years when you retired?
(This will be shown on your payslip as 'Compensation' - you would also have received a compensatory added years lump sum when you retired.)
If the answer is NO
- If you didn't receive any compensatory added years, you can take up any new employment without your pension being affected.
If the answer is YES
- Your compensation pension may be reduced or suspended - please read the section below.
- If you return to work for an employer covered by the Local Government Pension Scheme, your compensation pension may be reduced or suspended while you are re-employed. This only affects people who retired on the grounds of redundancy or interest of efficiency and received compensatory added years when they retired.
- Any pension in respect of compensatory added years may also be subject to a permanent reduction when the new employment ends. This is a particularly complex area where you should contact us if you are starting work again, so that we can tell you if your pension is affected.
- Reassessment of an award of Compensatory Added Years will occur without exception in all applicable cases. This reassessment will also review the compensation lump sum awarded on retirement.
