Refunds

» View pages in this section

If you leave the Fund with less than two years' membership and have not transferred in pension rights from another scheme, you can ask for a refund.

The extra national insurance and tax that you would have paid if you had not been contributing to the Fund will be taken off your refund and sent to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

Once you accept your refund, you are no longer a member of the Fund and you are not entitled to any benefits from the Fund.

A refund from the Lothian Pension Scheme will affect any preserved benefits you have with other administrators of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

If you accept a refund from us, you may lose the benefits you have preserved elsewhere.

For example, if you were a member of Strathclyde Pension Fund for ten years and preserved a pension with them and then joined the Lothian Pension Fund for 18 months, a refund of your Lothian Pension Fund contributions would mean you would lose your preserved benefits with Strathclyde.

Please contact us for details, as you may prefer to preserve your pension or link it to membership elsewhere.
