Nominating a co-habiting partner

If you have a co-habiting partner and complete the co-habiting partner nomination form they will be able to receive a survivor’s pension when you die.

To nominate a co-habiting partner your relationship has to meet certain conditions. These include a declaration from both parties that for at least two years you have continuously been:-

     •       financially inter-dependent

     •       both free to marry or form a civil partnership

     •       co-habiting as if married/civil partners

Survivor pensions for nominated co-habiting partners will be calculated on the same basis as the survivor’s pension for husband/wife and civil partners.

Co-habiting partner’s pension will be paid on the same basis - 1/160th of the member’s final year’s pay for each year of membership. Like civil partners, membership after April 1988 only counts towards a co-habiting partner’s pension.
