Investment
goals We invest employer and member contributions in the best interest of our members.
Investments are designed to make a profit that, when coupled with the contributions
of members and employers, will be enough to pay our members' benefits now
and in the future.
The Pensions & Trusts Committee decides the proportion of the Fund to be allocated to each asset category in the long term: for example, what proportion to invest in equities or bonds. This is known as the Fund's asset allocation.
Asset allocation is decided with the help of the Fund's actuary, and we then appoint external investment managers. Investment managers specialise in investing allocated funds in certain asset categories.
Our Statement of Investment Principles includes policies on funding levels, risk, shareholder voting and socially responsible investment. Our Funding Strategy Statement [PDF] sets out how the Scheme is funded from contributions and investments.
