LGPS 2018 - retirement from age 55

Changes to the LGPS (Scotland) Regulations came into force on 1 June 2018.  You can view the LGPS (Scotland) 2018 Regulations here.  Members who were in the Scheme at 1 June 2018 can retire from age 55.  If you take your benefits before your Normal Pension Age, your benefits will be reduced for early payment. This reduction can be as much as 52% if taking benefits 13 years early. The quickest and easiest way to see your reduced benefits is to use the My Pension Online service. Visit our home page and click on the links to login or register.  The online service mirrors exactly the information held by the Fund.

Pension Freedom - Government changes to accessing pension as cash

The UK Government changes that came into effect on 6 April 2015 apply only to pension schemes where a member has to buy a pension at retirement.  These are called Defined Contribution schemes (DC)  The Local Government Pension Scheme is a Defined Benefit scheme (DB) and therefore the changes announced do not apply. You can find out about the Government's changes here
